Baseball Party

We had Nicholas' baseball party on Sunday. I was really stressing out in the morning because our pool had gone from toxic neon green to a cloudy blue. At least we had the right color. It was really chilly and overcast in the morning and the grass was soaked from the night before. I couldn't imagine how we were going to have a party. Thankfully our neighbors called, who also have a son on the team, and offered their jumpy house. I was so grateful! Even though it was in the 60's, the kids still swam their little hearts out.

Nana bought Nicholas this fun rocket launcher and that entertained the kids for a really long time.

And our friend Tedy B. came again this year! He is just the nicest guy. He told Danny he had been dreaming about Danny's chicken wings for the past year and couldn't wait to come over and have some more. Danny put a huge bowl of wings in front of him and he went to town eating them. Tedy is wonderful with the kids and had a ball playing with them all day.

I got a picture of him this year. I pretended I wanted a picture of Julia. So sneeky.

The kids got their trophy's at our house because the last game was rained out...I know...hard to believe.

All the dads played wiffle ball with the kids...and then the moms took a turn (well, not me).

You ever feel like someone is watching you???

You know it was a great party when it started at 1:00 and everyone left at 8:30 at night. We had to turn the grill back on for seconds of hot dogs and hamburgers. Oh...and we only had one beer left in our fridge.

And the best part of the day for me? When Tedy gave me a big bear hug when he left. Of course his 6 foot 120 pound blonde haired beauty of a wife was next to him so the moment was brief...ahhhhh...

Yes, a good time was had by all.

You know it's summer when...

the washcloths look like this after Nicholas takes a shower.

And why he used the girls washcloth is beyond me.

Julia's last day

Julia is now officially done with kindergarten. You would think after two years of her in kindergarten I would be OK with it...but I'm still sad. She closes this young chapter of her life. I will miss her terribly when she is gone to school all day. I will miss our lazy mornings together. I will miss our lunches. I will miss playing Nancy Drew with her. I will miss how she keeps Gianna company. I will miss how she keeps ME company. I will miss everything. But life moves on and she must grow up.

Her teacher always had the nicest things to say about her.

And our Nicholas...oh our sweet boy Nicholas. He is off to 2nd grade next year. How in the world did that happen? When kids start school, life begins moving at light speed.

When a teacher tells you that your child is such a nice boy and that she will really miss him next year and really means it, that is the ultimate compliment any Mother and Father can receive.

So summer begins tomorrow for the kids and what a busy summer they will have. Nicholas starts summer day camp on Monday, hockey in July, and swimming lessons. Julia starts her new gymnastics team and will be practicing four hours a week. She also has swimming lessons, a week of dance camp and a week of vacation bible school. And even Gianna will be busy this summer with swimming lessons (if she'll get in the water) and a once a week gymnastics class.

But we'll also take plenty of time to just hang by the pool, go to some beaches, vacation down the Cape, head up to Ogunquit, play at Canoby Lake Park and visit some museums.

I'm really glad summer is finally here. Now all we need is some sunshine and warm weather...and oh...our pool to clear up so we can actually swim in it.

Watch and enjoy some adorable kindergarten songs...

Each child got up and told the class what they want to be when they grow up. Julia says she wants to be a dancer. And she'll be a beautiful one too.

June Gloom

I'm so sick and tired of the clouds and the rain. It's chilly and damp with no end in sight. Here it is June 19th and we have yet to turn on the AC. I'm white as a ghost because there is no sun. Our pool is freezing.

So what do you do when the weather is like this? Organize your house! We bought Julia a new bedroom set.
Finally, she'll move out of Nicholas' room and have a pretty bed and a space to call her own. She's told me she wants to change the wall color from yellow to pink & purple. Daddy will do the painting and we'll buy her new carpeting, curtains and some pretty bedding. She also wants to change the pictures on the walls. She thinks her room is babyish. My little girl is growing up.

Another way to warm things up is make some yummy food. Last night Pops and CeCe came over for dinner. I made homemade spaghetti sauce with meatballs and garlic bread. CeCe brought salad and brownies. Yummy. Dad was looking and feeling so much better. Just a fun night all around.

Now...back to cleaning out my "office" so we can turn it back into Gianna's bedroom. Not that she'll sleep in there...

He melts our hearts

There is something so special about this little boy of ours...

At the movies the other day, he just put his arm around me and whispered in my ear, "You're so beautiful, Mom. I love you."
Today as I was sitting here at my computer, this is what I saw...Nicholas with his arm around his Dad proudly showing him his hockey cards. Nicholas had spent hours putting them neatly into a 3-ring binder. After they were done looking at them, Nicholas told Daddy he could keep them.

That's our boy. Full of so much sweetness and love.

See you later alligator

I cannot wrap my brain around the fact that Gianna, my littlest one, has finished her first year of preschool already. Wasn't it just the other day that I was enrolling her??? Honestly, I don't know where the time goes. I think this cool weather is somewhat deceiving too. It doesn't feel like June. The last few weeks of school are usually hot and my kids are still wearing their winter clothes and jackets!

The kids sang really cute songs, counted to 10 and sang their A,B,C's for us.

Our favorite teacher ever...Miss Kristen...

I know it meant a lot to Gianna to have her Papa there. She adores him!

tooth #8

They're falling out fast and furious now. He hit himself in the face with his baseball glove and really got it loose. It was hanging by a thread at breakfast yesterday and fell out with the first bite. We had to fish through his chewed up cereal...yes, gross...but we found it! The tooth fairy left $2.00 last night. Nice!!!

Busy June

Last week Gianna had a fun field trip to Capron Park Zoo. Here she is with her best friend from school...

I'm loving my new camera!

Julia had her dance recital Saturday afternoon. She did wonderful of course! She was front and center for her tap routine "Itty Bitty Pretty One". She smiled and looked adorable! Her acro routine, "Hound Dog", went really well too. She had the best headstand and did great on her bridge/backbend kickover, and one-arm cartwheel! So proud of my girl!

Gianna had her gymnastics show and did great too!

The "Smith Forehead" in all its glory...but how cute is she?

Nicholas isn't getting "air" time here but he's busy too. He's been playing baseball (very well) and taking part in hockey clinics on Monday nights. In July, he starts playing hockey games on Monday nights for the summer.

Only a few more weeks of school and then we'll get a bit of a breather before all the summer activities begin! I have to say that I love running here and there watching my kids learn all these new skills. I wish it were me sometimes getting to dance again on stage and walk on the balance beam or hit the baseball. But those days are over for me. That's why it's so fabulous having kids. You can relive all the fun and excitement through them. That's what it's all about.

Life is good right now for all of us.
