Happiness

"But even with all that others were willing to offer me, I realized along the way that ultimately nothing they did could make me happy. I felt comforted by family and my faith, but peace was different from happiness. At first I thought stubbornly that the only thing that would make me happy was for my life to look like it did before the accident. But no one could give that to me, and no one else could make me happy. Happiness was my choice, and though it is hard won, I am the only person who can stand in the way of it."

Headliners

Julia and Alyssa competed at Headliners yesterday.  Julia looked so beautiful and graceful!  I couldn't have been more proud!

They both won Elite Gold....

Julia came in 5th place overall in the Junior Division...that was out of 25 routines!

Julia received a special judges award for "Powerhouse, Elevation and Extension".

What a great way to start the season!

True source of happiness...

This is a life lesson I hope to teach my girls...

“I know, now, without a doubt that the true source of happiness, self-worth, and authentic beauty doesn't come from the outside. Women are constantly being persuaded to want something unachievable, to look younger or thinner and above all to fit in because being different is too painful and embarrassing. I have accepted myself in a world that does not accept me, because I have learned - and more than any of the lessons of my accident, this is the one I wish I could teach everybody - that our hearts matter most. Your heart matters most, so be gentler and more patient with yourself, and their hearts matter most, too, so be kinder and more compassionate to others."

Blizzard 2013

It was a wild night last night...a blizzard blew through here and it meant business! The winds were wild around 10:30 last night. We lost power 3 times but just for about a minute each time. We are very lucky to have our own town electric company!  There is a driving ban in place for our whole state.  It started yesterday at 4:00 p.m. and is still in place.  Most side roads, like ours, are impassible.

Most of our windows in the back of our house look like this...

We easily got 2 feet of snow...lots of drifts though which make it hard to measure.

This ambulance got stuck early this morning.  It took a whole bunch of us to get him moving again...

Patty's house...

Danny teaching Nicholas the ropes...see how Nicholas is almost as tall as Danny now?  It's freaking me out how tall he is getting...just under my chin.  Pretty soon we'll be looking eye to eye.  Oh my baby...

The drifts are crazy out there...

So pretty and peaceful...
