First and foremost...my Mom. It is so beyond sad, scary and stressful to see her in this condition. This is her worst nightmare. She has lived 85 years of her life as a strong, independent woman. Yes, things had changed a bit as she has aged...like her short term memory loss...and her ability to drive a car safely. The four of us kids have each stepped up to the plate with different roles in helping life be a little easier for her as she has aged. But then having a stroke was all it took to take all that independence away. She cannot speak right now and being in a hospital in unfamiliar surroundings has done a doozy on her mental state. She goes through bouts of just being lost and distant and confused to all of a sudden waking up and being fully aware. In those awake moments (like the picture above) she is her sweet, funny and emotional self. Yesterday Danny was standing right in front of her and she started kicking him...playfully...and she was laughing. It is so awesome to hear her laugh and see her smile, but those moments are very far and few in between. It is a blessing that she can still walk and physically the stroke(s) didn't take her mobility away. So we are hoping she gets moved to a rehab center very soon (one of the absolute best ones in this area is taking her thankfully) and she can get the help she needs. I know it will never be a full recovery, but our end goal is to get her home...back into her familiar environment for a little bit of "normalcy".
