The Rest and Rockets

The rest of our vacation was good...although it rained on Wednesday. But we were prepared with lots of coloring books, crayons, stuffed friends, board games, computer games, video games and movies.

We went to see a kids movie and played miniature golf too. Needless to say, I don't think any of us will be professional golfers when we grow up.

Goodbye to our tiny little Cape house...we won't be seeing you again...

The following morning after our trip, Nicholas had a rocket launch with the Cub Scouts...it was lots of fun!

He's on the right. They built their own rockets and then launched them on this cool contraption...

Cub Scouts is a fabulous activity for young boys...we highly recommend it.

Cape Vacation Day 3

What a beautiful day it was today...just a picture perfect beach day.

After the beach, we had clams and other fattening fried food for dinner. Yummm....

Then it was off to this place...candy heaven!

I haven't seen some of this candy in years. When I was a little girl, Friday nights I would go grocery shopping with my Mom & Dad and when we were done they would let me get a treat at the check out counter. I would always pick one of these....

After our candy fix, we took the kiddies to jump on some trampelines to help burn off all that sugar.

Cape Vacation Day 2

Looks like we're going to have really nice weather this week for our vacation. When we arrived yesterday afternoon there were downpours. But we were getting settled in the house so it really didn't matter.

The house...well...for starters we were told there was a washer/dryer. Guess what...surprise!! No washer/dryer!!! I literally had a break down. The realtor had all kinds of excuses and is giving us $175 back. Shame on them and shame on the owners for false advertising. We never would have booked this place had we known. Guess we'll be spending time at the Laundromat this week. We purposely packed light thinking we could wash our towels and clothes.

But on to better things...like the beach. It was a gorgeous beach day this afternoon. The kids had lots of fun. The beach we go to here has a playground and snack bar. Two very important things when you're 8, 7 and 5.

Nicholas got really dizzy on this chair and literally fell face first into the sand. It was very funny. See the video at the end of this post and you'll see how dizzy the kids got on this thing...

Our house is...very tiny...but the one great thing is it has central air (which we're going to really need this week), a cool fire pit in the backyard, a swing set for the kids to fight over and a hammock to push each other off of. Did I mention the fighting??? Ugh. They've been torturing us with the fighting. One minute they're fine, the next, not so much.

our 4th of July weekend

Is it HOT enough for you?!?! It is sweltering here. 90 to 100 degrees every day this week. Enough is enough!! Thank goodness we have a pool...although I don't even want to go in it because that means I have to leave the air conditioned house.

We had a great long weekend. We went to the fireworks, hung out with friends and had a family party.

The kids and I made this for our party and my Dad LOVED it...He said it was very "clever"...

My favorite brother (OK...my only brother), Rick, came up from Florida for a visit. I'm blaming him for bringing the hot weather with him.

And my handsome nephew, Tyler, was here too. Look! He's actually smiling and showing his teeth!!! (He doesn't like his smile...please.)

This picture just cracks me up. Gianna woke up and had this crazy hair. She wasn't thrilled that I wanted to take a picture of her.

Our Summer List

The kids and I sat down and made this...

a list of things we want to do this summer...we may do all of them...or we may only do some of them.

But we did do one of them already...we went swimming in Papa and CeCe's pool yesterday. Always a great time. The water was really, really warm and the jacuzzi was heaven!

Baseball tonight...

Nicholas had a field trip today with camp. I got a little bit emotional watching him walk away from me this morning to go on that trip. He doesn't really hold my hand anymore as we walk into camp. And that's OK. I know he's getting older and this is a natural step. He just seemed a little apprehensive this morning walking toward the big group of kids with a sea of yellow colored camp t-shirts. He was a little unsure as to where to go, where to sit, what to do with his backpack. But he just kept walking and figured it all out. I wanted to hold his hand and walk him over. I wanted to ask the counselor the questions for him. I wanted to protect him and take care of him. But I just turned and left and let him be. He's going to be nine this summer. He's growing up so fast. I know he can do these things for himself now. And a part of me still wants him to be little and still do everything for him. I want to take care of him. I want him to be with me all the time. But I know I need to let go a little. And I am.

But I know he's still mine. And will always be mine.
